Welcome to Clay Ballard's Top Speed Golf Instruction
IÂ founded Top Speed Golf in 2015.
Here's what it's all about...
When you analyze the swings of any top player in the world -- whether it's Jim Furyk, Adam Scott, or anyone else -- there are 5 aspects they all have roughly in common:
1. Stable & Fluid Spine
2. Power Turn
3. Top Speed Lag
4. Compression Line
5. Straight-Line Release
I've found that these 5 pieces will give you 95% of your results.
My Top Speed Golf system teaches you those 5 aspects in a step-by-step, course-based fashion.
"Does it work?" you may be wondering...
"I've played professional golf for many years, and I've had instruction from some of the best teachers in the world. For the first time in my career, I understand the golf swing with clarity thanks to Clay Ballard and his Top Speed Golf website.
Clay's Top Speed Golf System is a well-planned, step-by-step system that will help any level golfer improve their game. Clay's knowledge of the biomechanics of the golf swing is exceptional!
After a 12-year absence from the game, I used Clay's Top Speed Golf System and videos to prepare for competitive senior golf. I'm happy to share with you that I recently shot a 59 at Breckenridge Park golf club in San Antonio, TX, and I finished tied for 11th at the 2016 European Senior Qualifying school in Portugal.
Thank you, Clay, for sharing your knowledge and time with me!!"

B002. How to Hit Fairway Bunker Shots
In this video, you’ll learn how to hit fairway bunker shots.
I bet you’ve been in this situation…
Your tee shot dribbles into a fairway bunker…
And your confidence takes it on the chin.
Well, next time you end up in a fairway bunker…
You’re going to hit a clean, crisp shot to your target!
In this video, I’ll show you the keys to getting out of the bunker with a clean shot.
Key #1…
Keep your chin and chest nice and high.
Concentrating on this will help prevent you from coming in too steep and chunking the ball.
Key #2…
Choke up about a 1/2 inch on your club.
That’ll naturally allow you to pick the ball clean out of the sand.
Key #3…
Feel like you’re taking the club more from the inside and shallow out your swing plane.
This is another way to prevent you from coming in too steep.

SH014. How to Hit Great Pitch Shots | Keep the Body Moving
In this video, you’ll learn how to hit great pitch shots.
First, let’s make sure it’s clear what the difference is between a pitch shot and a full swing.
I get asked about this often so let’s make sure you know the difference.
The main difference is that with a full swing, you’ll have a lot of lag, and you stay in posture longer through contact.
Also, you need to whip the club through with a full release.
With a pitch, on the other hand, your club, body, and arms stay together more.
Essentially, you’re moving through contact as one unit.
Quick tip…
Focus on keeping your left elbow close to your body.
Your finish is different as well with pitch shots…
Let your shoulders level out quickly after impact and have the club finish more vertical.
Here are the 3 main checkpoints for hitting great pitch shots…
- Your shoulders should be more level in the follow through
- Let the club finish vertical (i.e. don’t let it roll over like you would in a full swing)
- Your left side and left elbow work closely together through impact
Practice those checkpoints and you’ll be well on your way to hitting great pitch shots.

C008. Golf Drill | Can You Do the High-Low Game?
Can you do the high-low game?
What’s that you ask?
Well, it’s a really fun game.
You’ll see how high you can hit the golf ball…
And how low you can hit the golf ball.
What’s great about this game is that you’ll learn how to control your trajectory like a pro!
In the video, you get a great demonstration of how to adjust your trajectory.
I’ll show you the stats behind the hits…
And you’ll get great tips so you can hit these shots.

…then be able to hit it low for those close green shots!
TC004. How to Stop Topping Golf Shots
In this video, you’ll learn how to stop topping golf shots.
Now…
Imagine you’re facing an important shot…
And whoops!
You fall back, top the ball, and lose the hole.
Well, let’s make sure this doesn’t happen again…
Ever!
In the first part of this video, you’ll learn how to eliminate the reverse pivot, the primary cause of topping the ball.
A reverse pivot happens when your hips move to the right in the downswing, and at the same time, your shoulders go left.
Once you’re in that horrible position, the downswing starts with your body falling backward and your weight shifting back.
If you’re falling away from the ball, it’s really hard to compress the ball.
More likely you’ll hit up on the ball and top it.
Here’s a great drill to eliminate your reverse pivot…
Tilt away from the ball at setup and put more weight on your back foot.
As you begin your backswing, focus on loading up on your back leg.
From the top, shift your weight forward through impact.
Do about 100 reps with this drill.
Next in the video, you’ll discover some great tips to stop casting.
Use a light grip with your right hand…
And a little tighter grip with your left hand.
Also, bow your left wrist and shallow out your club path in the downswing.
Practice these moves and you’ll start to compress the heck out of the ball.

D012. Golf Flip vs. Golf Release | The Difference Is Huge!
In this video, you get a great golf flip vs. golf release analysis.
Here’s the problem…
One of the most common issues my new students struggle with is flipping the club and losing their lag early.
They’re not compressing the ball well and not getting the power they want.
So, this video concentrates on how to eliminate flipping the club so you can maintain your lag and hit with power.
In the first part of the video, you’ll find out where the flip is coming from…
And where should you release the club.
The flip comes from your right arm pushing the club away from your body early in your downswing.
Here’s how to stop flipping early…
Feel like your right forearm, right thumb, and right forefinger are relaxed as you start the downswing.
Also feel like your club shallows out in the downswing.
As you approach contact, let your left wrist turn up for a better contact zone.
Practice making some one arm swings (both left and right), then practice with two hands.

Stop flipping your club…
Maintain your lag for more compression…
And get more distance!
