So you're starting to put the pieces together. You're starting to stay in your posture, you're making ball, first contact, and you're starting to flight those wedges. Perfect. I wanna help you avoid the biggest mistake that I see players make as they start staying in their posture. And I'm gonna use the blue brick to help us solve this problem.
So when I see players start staying down in their posture, the number one mistake that I see players make is that they start coming over the top in an effort to stay down on the golf ball, which causes a left path cuts. Slices, all the things you don't wanna see in a great wedge. So we're gonna use the blue brick here and I'm gonna use one particular setting the inside swing to help us stay on our, in our power position so that the path stays exactly where we want it and the ball flight stays straight and even start hitting some slight.
So I put this stick in the inside swing setting on the blue brick, and now I'm gonna place the ball directly underneath the tip of this stick. Now, you just saw Clay work through that progression, that series of drills, and he talked about hitting the power position. That way we are not coming over the top or swinging to the left and now adjusting our path.
So this is gonna give us immediate feedback on whether or not we're staying on the inside. 'cause if I don't hit that power position, if I start getting out here now, what am I gonna do? I'm gonna directly come down, I'm gonna hit that stick. I'm gonna get some great feedback to know I need to swing more from the inside.
So now got that ball directly under the stick. The goal is simple. I'm gonna start in that power position, gripping down in the shaft, just like that series of drills. I've got my club face matching my spine angle so it's not too open, it's not too shut. I've got it matching that spine angle and all I'm gonna do here from this power position is swing under the stick and hit the golf ball power position just like that.
So you can see started right of my target line and it's gonna draw back nicely. That's gonna gimme some feedback, getting that feel of keeping that club to the inside. So after doing this for a few reps, I also want you to make sure as you're hitting golf balls, I want you to make sure that as you hit this power position and swing under you, don't make the mistake of leaving that club face open.
Clay just talked about it. If that leading edge is faced wide open like this, we need to shut the club face, get that toe pointed up just like you talked about that laser matching the spine angle. Or even better turning that toe down if you have problems leaving the face open and balls are just kinda leaking out to the right.
So I'm gonna continue to do 10, 15 shots hitting that power position. Boom, that face is turned over. I've got that club turned over and now I see that ball starting to work right to left with that nice contact. Now, the next part of this drill, you'll see I put some tape right here just behind the golf ball, just like Clay did in his progression, and now I'm also using feedback with the stick.
So I have to come from the inside and I have to get my hands forward to make that ball first contact. I think these two drills together are the best impact drills that you can do. So I'm gonna line up, I'm still choked down on my club and I'm hitting that power position. Coming through ball first, swinging under that stick.
Perfect. Nice low draw, perfectly. Flighted coming from the inside. Great ball, first contact. Absolutely nothing that I would change about that. And it took me a while. I had to start with just these small swings, choking down on the shaft, really feeling that forward shaft lean. And as I started to get better, I started using those pictures in my mind.
Now I started to upgrade to full swing. And now as you start to get better. You can do the same drill here with full swing feeling that power position right here, swinging from the inside, getting those hands forward. Look, I'm getting my weight left. Staying back on the ball is an immediate recipe for coming over the top, hitting the stick, and hitting those high cuts that you don't want.
And so after I worked through that progression, now out perfect from the inside, nice draw hands are far forward. I caught a little bit of the tape there so you can see I need to do this drill a little bit more. Use the blue brick in the inside swing setting along with the progression of drills that Clay just went through in that video, and you're gonna start hitting some of the best golf shots of your life.
