Hey, Quinton here, and I'm really excited to share with you the incredible swing transformation that one of my online students has made. So, uh, this is Greg here. These are some of his initial swing videos that he sent me. And Greg came to me really struggling with just inconsistency, slicing, and that sort of thing.
So let's go ahead and bring him up to the top here. And what we're going to notice right away Is that Greg's not getting much of a turn? And this is one of the things that clay talks about in the top speed golf system and the power turn course, right? We want to make sure that we're getting the shoulders to turn at least 90 degrees now This is important for power.
Of course That's why we call it the power turn But it's also important for being able to shallow out the club properly You see when you don't when you don't get a good turn The hands don't really get a lot of depth and what I mean by that is You Let me draw a line straight down from the butt end of the club at the top of the swing.
What you're going to see is that that line comes down right around the tips of the toes. When you look at the best players, what you're going to see is, if you do that, is you're going to typically see that line be around the ankle to heel area. That it's going to be more around in that area. And it just makes it a lot easier to shallow out the club And bring, you know, bring it from the inside and be able to hit nice, uh, beautiful draws.
But if we watch here, because he doesn't get that, that depth, he's going to tend to kind of come over the top here. So you can see how the club starts down steep and how he's cutting across the ball. It's going to be very, very difficult to play consistent golf. Um, when, when you do that, Um, so the first thing that we had to do was work on getting a bigger turn.
And we did that through just some physical cues, you know, straightening out the trail leg a little bit, trying to push that hip back and around feeling like that, this, this lead shoulder here gets behind the ball. Almost like you're looking over your lead shoulder at the top of the swing. Those are all really, really helpful, helpful to help you get a good turn.
We definitely did some drills where we put a club across the shoulders. Just to kind of get a feel for where we need to be. And he worked really hard and that got him a good turn. But just because you get a good turn, doesn't mean you're going to stop coming down steep, right? So it was better, but it was still coming down steep.
So the next steps after that were to do some barrier drills, swing the club from the inside, you know, basically we want to imagine where we're standing at first or at home plate on a baseball field. And we're wanting to swing that club as far toward first base as we possibly can. So we put the barrier down and he got to where he could do it with the barrier and then eventually got to where he could do it without the barrier.
Uh, but then what ended up happening is we started hitting the ball chunky and thinning it sometimes. And this is very common for people that tend to come over the top. If you're someone who's been. working on coming over the top and, and, uh, or, or working on getting rid of your over the top swing. And you've been swinging the club from the inside, but then you start chunking and thinning everything.
This might be exactly why. So if we watch, uh, him in the downswing again, again, these are the, um, before videos that he sent me, what you're going to notice here is how he swings off of his back foot. You can even see his, he's getting up on his toes. And the reason why that is, is that when you come over the top.
It shifts the bottom of your swing arc toward the target, right? So what a lot of people do to compensate for that is they will hang back in the swing and even get up on their toes as they're coming through contact to move the arc away from the ground a little bit and also away from the target a little bit so that way they can hit the ball without digging, uh, you know, a trench into the ground because if he shifted his weight forward really nicely.
Um, and stayed to ground, you know, kept dug in with his left heel as he's coming through contact. His swing arc would come around, come in and it would kind of be like this. It would be so far in front of the ground and this, you'd be taking out this entire portion of the ground right here. And I tell you what, if you're hitting, if you're doing that off of a mat, that's going to hurt those wrists and those shoulders and the elbows.
I don't, I don't recommend that. So, what Greg did to compensate for that is he would hang back and get up on the toes. Alright, so now let's bring in the after videos and let's see, uh, the changes that he's made. Alright, so I kept the, the down the line, uh, before video, but we have the downline after video now.
And what we're going to see right away is how at the top of the swing, now he's got that depth. He's got that butt into the club more over that heel area. He's also very clearly making a much bigger turn. We'll see that more in the, in the face on view here in a minute. But you can see how he's in a much much better spot to be able to get that club to work from the inside And one thing that we use is to kind of determine if we're shallowing out the club or not is the shallowing line That goes from the ball up through the middle of the elbow Now we don't have quite the perfect camera angle here.
We're kind of lined up down the heel So it's going to make it seem like he's maybe a little bit less shallow than what he actually is But we're going to be able to clearly see how that club works very nicely Underneath that line and if you were to draw that on this one You would see that that club works out very much above that line, right?
So this is going to lead to straighter, more consistent shots. This is going to lead to a lot of inconsistency, uh, slicing, hooking, pulling, and things like that. So Greg did a really good job working on getting that club to work from the inside. Now let's take a look at the face on and see how he's more grounded in shifting his weight forward now.
All right. So now he has the face on videos in here. And again, if you look at the face on, this is the before video on the left, you can see not a full shoulder turn. Let's go to the new before swing. There's that nice big shoulder turn. The hips are turning. The shoulders are turning, helps you to create that depth.
It's also going to help to create a lot of power, right? We're going to be able to swing the club faster from this kind of position as well. What we're also going to notice is in the downswing, how he actually shifts his weight forward. Let's actually sync these together and watch how. You can see on the before video hangs on that stays on that back foot.
The after video, you're going to see a little bit of a lateral shift into that lead side. That's what all the best players do. They're going to have a little bit of a lateral shift to get that weight in that, in that lead foot. Now let's watch as he comes into impact here. You can see he's driving in that, in that lead side.
that there's much more weight on that lead side. And you can also see how his compression line, which if you're familiar with the top speed golf system, that's the line that goes from the lead ankle here to the lead hip, to the lead shoulder. We want those to all be in alignment. And for an iron shot, I actually liked it to see that pretty vertical to the ground.
If you look here on the after, uh, or excuse me, the before video, you're going to see how he doesn't have his hip. shoulder and ankle in alignment there. In fact, his hip is very bumped in because he's trying to avoid hitting the ground too much, right? He's just trying to come through and kind of sweep through the ball there.
Whereas on the after video, because he's shallowing out the club, he now has to get his body more forward. Otherwise he's going to chunk and thin everything. And he did a really, really great job. Uh, of doing that and that's just simple cues just working on getting that compression line to be more vertical as we're coming through contact.
And now we have a swing that we can work with and be able to hit some more consistent shots with. So if you're watching this video on the day that it's released, this means that I'm opening up spots for my online lessons and I can work with you just like I worked with Greg here to help him get a more consistent swing, be able to play some better golf.
So, uh, I do have some spots open. Uh, if you're interested, there should be a link below the video. Um, you can click that link and sign up for the online lessons. Uh, if the link is there, but there's a waiting list, uh, just join that waiting list. So that way, whenever I have spots available in the future, we'll send you out an email and then, you know, you can sign up at that, not at that time.
So it was fun sharing this with you. I love to do one of these videos with you as well. If you want to sign up for my online lessons, hope you have a great rest of your day. Talk to you next time.
